About us

Our family winery

Ours is a winery run by two friends: Kamil Piálek and Jarda Jäger.
Since childhood days, our paths always took us in the same direction. We played sports together, we studied together, and finally we began making wine together.

We both grew up in the Znojmo wine-making sub-region, and both our families had a prior history of wine-making.  As we studied side by side as fellow students at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague-Suchdol, it occurred to us that we’d like to make our own wine.  We pooled our savings to buy a wine press, and never looked back.  We shared equipment to earn the money for everything needed to run our own production.  Our first joint wine with proprietary label came into the world as part of the 2004 vintage year; since then, we have been pouring our heart and soul into wine-making.

Our concept

Our concept

Our wine-making concept is based on our life values: do everything with your heart, with all your might, but so that it’ll make sense. We draw upon traditional experience, but we are not afraid to experiment and to take inspiration from modern production technologies.

Production is fully under our own control.  All strategic questions are resolved by way of joint decisions.  Jarda Jäger is personally involved in – and takes a hands-on approach to – checking on our vineyards, the fermentation of musts, and the maturation of our wines.  He knows what needs to be done, and when’s the right moment for it.  Kamil Piálek’s responsibilities include business matters, marketing, and event management. Additional family members are also involved in the day-to-day operations of our winery, as are friends and people close to us.  Our products are the work of the close-knit circle of our families, from the harvest of grapes all the way to the design of the labels on our bottles.

Our firm’s sole focus is on wine-making and hospitality.  We do what we love, and what we do best.  We take pride in what we’ve built from the ground up, and we’ll be delighted to show you around.  We take great care to ensure that the wine you can taste at our wine cellars is available in the same quality online, as well as in that restaurant on the other side of the country – or the world, if it comes to that.

A unique location

A unique location

The Znojmo wine-making sub-region is famous in particular for aromatic whites. An appellation system has been created for the typical varieties of this sub-region such as Veltlínské zelené (Grüner Veltliner), Sauvignon, and Rhine Riesling: the VOC Znojmo (Víno originální certifikace – that is, Originally Certified Wine), which guarantees consumers that they get to enjoy wine of a superior quality with the unique taste profile that is typical for the region. Beyond that, our winery offers also other superbly crafted wines such as an aromatic rosé, a Hibernal with touches of residual sugar, a hefty Chardonnay mounted on oak barrels, or naturally sweet wines.

However, belonging to one wine-making region does not mean that all wines will be the same.  The climate and the soil may be almost the same within a given sub-region, but each vineyard is nonetheless unique.  The geographical position, the terrain, the inclination of the slopes and their orientation toward the sun – they all create unrepeatable conditions for the ripening of grapes.  Our vineyards are certified organic, and lie on the slopes of Kraví hora (Cow Hill) and Načeratice Hill.

We support youth sports

We support youth sports

At our winery, we set store in tradition, rely on teamwork, and constantly strive to be better. We impart these values in our children, and would like to inspire many others. Being passionate sports lovers ourselves, and the official wine supplier for football club Baník Ostrava besides, we decided to support a project whereby 10 to 100 crowns from the proceeds of each bottle of wine sold to the club goes toward Baník’s Football Academy in support of athletic children and youth. Being from Znojmo, our true passion is ice hockey, let’s admit it. Even so, we are properly proud of our partnership with Baník, seeing as we have a shared bond of values such as history, pride, and loyalty.
